Backpack Afghanistan
The Darulaman Palace - a seemingly good symbol of current Afghanistan. Once beautiful, now destroyed and will remain that way for some time to come.

Darulaman Palace - July 2003
The security guard wouldn't let us in, claiming that four weeks previously, two Taliban had laid a mine at the entrance and had blown themselves up. We thought he just wanted money, but my Afghani/American friend convinced him to let us in - he accompanied us.
We went in, and yes, at the entrance was the evidence of the explosion (which was laid under a tile) with pock-marked walls and pieces of cloth embedded in the walls. I didn't want to go in after that, but followed in their footsteps (and at greater than six metres range...).
Ah yes, weapon safety is important...

...there is no moral to the story, it's just a bunch of stuff that happened...
