Backpack Tibet

Lhasa is really not all that beautiful. Sadly, Han Chinese architecture (and imagination) is taking over everything.

This is overlooking Barkhor Square with Jokhang Temple in the back (white building and area behind it). Thankfully this has been declared a World Heritage area, therefore all building has to be in the traditional Tibetan style.

How's this for a natural look?
Austin, at The Dunya, 2002

Austin, who I kept bumping into in Xinjiang and travelled with in Tibet. One of the most unique characters I've ever met. He bought these Tibetan robes (the hat he always wears) and wore them around Lhasa, and they were a hit! The locals loved him.

The people you meet...

The other side of what you see. On the walls of one of the monasteries. Thanks to the Red Guards from the time of the Cultural Revolution - people now showing what they think...

Easy to take sides here, but it's never that simple.

Thankfully this is not a political site...

Was this when he was only 30% wrong?...
Can't remember the name of the Monstary
...there is no moral to the story, it's just a bunch of stuff that happened...
