Cycle - Grape Island

In the middle of the Yangtze River, there is an Island with a lot of vineyards called, appropriately enough, Grape Island. James, Candy (his partner), Mabel and myself rode over there to have a look.

Took the ferry across and that cost us all of six Yuan (less than AU$1.00) for all of us including our bikes.

There is a road that goes around the island for about 20 to 30 kilometres, but we wanted to take a short cut and ended up in a lot of mud. Still, made for an interesting ride.

The other half of the island is devoted to making boats for the river. Guess they don't have to withstand much, for when you see them you wonder how they would manage to survive a bump. Each one is hand-welded using what looks like thin sheet metal - but it must work, as they seem to float.

There are rows and rows of these boats being made here.
