Cycle KKH - Bike Setup

Me and the Chairman
The Bike

Bike
Giant ATX 740 (begginer/intermediate MTB from a few years ago) Aluminium Frame
Standard everything, except:
Tyres - MOAB Sweetroll
Bars - Amoeba Downhill, raises the height to help reduce neckstrain
Grips - softer, more comfortable
Bar ends - more for my mountain bike use really
Seat - Brooks Champion Flyer; don't leave home without it!!
Rack - Tubus rear Cargo
Panniers - Carradice Super C (rear - 56 litres/pair)
Handlebar Bag - Carradice Super C; indespensible!
Lights - Cateyes, LD250 (rear), LD170 (front)
Water - two carriers
Pump - Zefal switch, taped to bike to prevent 'easy' removal
Notes:
Tyres: the MOABs were the only things I could find. I wanted Wildgripper Comps or Schwalbes or similiar
Seat: needs wearing in (100 to 200 kms) to be really comfortable, but once worn in, just fantastic!
Lights: chose flashing units, because I need to be seen, not really see. I rode at dusk sometimes. I also took a cateye EL-100 (LED), but only because I lost my maglight and used this instead.
Found that I had nowhere to put my rear unit without fouling, therefore I needed one to attach to the rack. The front flashing unit attracts attention from a long, long way away...
Things I Would Change:
Maybe
- cleated pedals (SPDs or similar) as I wasted a lot of energy pedalling
- higher bars, to further reduce neck strain
- use my Carradice Front Panners (Limpet System) for better weight distribution
Definate
- taller gearing! Some sections I would top out and was frustrated, as I could go a lot harder. Would go from the current max of 42T up to 48T to 52T.
